With a graceful presence and charismatic performances, Afro-Latina actress and singer Amirah Vann has established herself as one of the industry’s most sought-after talents across film, television, and stage.
She was most recently seen starring in Tyler Perry’s A JAZZMAN’S BLUES on Netflix. Vann’s soulful singing voice, and nuanced performance as Hattie Mae earned her critical praise from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and TIME, among others.
This year, she can be seen alongside LaKeith Stanfield in the Apple TV+ drama series THE CHANGELING and alongside Regina King in Netflix’s SHIRLEY, a biopic feature about trailblazing political icon Shirley Chisholm (King), the first Black Congresswoman and the first Black woman to run for President of the United States.
Her onscreen credits include roles in Shondaland and ABC’s HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, WGN’s UNDERGROUND, Ava DuVernay and OWN’s QUEEN SUGAR, USA’s UNSOLVED, Paramount +’s STAR TREK: PICARD, TRACERS, MISS VIRGINIA, and Netflix’s Emmy-winning action-adventure animated series ARCANE, among many others.
Stage credits include THE MOUNTAINTOP, VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, TROUBLE IN MIND, and the Continuum Company’s productions of PERICLES and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM in Florence, Italy among others. The latter for which, in addition to her role as Hermia, she's credited as a collaborating vocalist alongside Jon Batiste.
Among her accolades, Vann is a two time NAACP Image Award Nominee, recipient of the Princess Grace Award in Acting, Best Actor by the UJAMAA Black Theater, and The ARTS Musical Theater Award.
A native of Far Rockaway, New York, Vann divides her time between New York and Los Angeles.
